Our major focus this term is creativity so as a class we decided to get creative and make some art works and we focussed on the art work of Matisse and Picasso. First, they picked out two pieces of colored paper and the larger white paper. They cut out large shapes from their coloured paper. But before they begin I gave them one last challenge! They must glue down ALL the paper. No scraps should be thrown away.
The children then drew a portrait. They drew a line down the middle of their and did one half as a front on view and the other side as a side on portrait. Matisse studied many different types of art. He could paint realistic or abstract. We talked through proportions of the face, so for example the face doesn't have to be oval or the eyes at the right place on the head etc.
After students are finished with their drawing then students will add color to the portrait. Following this the students added oil pastel patterns to the background. Then the final touch was to outline major parts of their picture with black paint.
There will be an instructional video on how to do this artwork to come.
